Today’s session includes ‘We Run’. It’s about being naughty apparently. “As I’ve always been a bit of a naughty child, chased adventure… and it’s got me into a few sticky situations!. But the ‘fun’ option can be quite detrimental to who you are and what you want to be doing.”
Part 2 of our session with Rothwell. We have a powerful, acoustic version of her current single 'Let People Like You'.
Part 1 - 12/8/16
Ella Rothwell, born and bred Bristolian but without a trace of that ‘milk maid’ accent… “I’ve never had one!”
She wrote her very first song when she was 12 – “Probably the worst song anybody has ever heard!” – the recording of which has apparently been lost…
– ‘I promise it has!’
Well, I suppose we believe her!
It was at 16 when she really started to focus on writing and performing, after being given a guitar by her uncle and practising with cover versions.
EP 2, the name of her next collection of songs, is once again very personal to her: “All of the songs I’ve written are about personal stories or people I know.”
Today's session includes ‘We Run’. It’s about being naughty apparently!
“As I’ve always been a bit of a naughty child, chased adventure… and it’s got me into a few sticky situations!. But the ‘fun’ option can be quite detrimental to who you are and what you want to be doing.”
Her next single ‘Let people like you’ is about “staying true to yourself and trying not to listen to what other people say you should be doing. Being new to the industry you get people saying ‘you should be like this’… usually coming from good places but can be quite confusing.”
The single is out right now and we have the video premiere right here! Another great track which we will follow up with next week with an acoustic version.
Rothwell is a very passionate performer.
'What do you hope the audience will take away from your music, your performances?'
“The one hope I have is that they can see that and that I’m being open with them all, honest… and they can take that away!”
The night we saw her I am absolutely sure they did just that!
