Reading Festival 2015: Petite Meller Interview

By: Ashley Moore

In total Disorder fashion, we bumped into the wonderful Petite Meller and grab an impromptu interview whilst she danced around the press area at Reading Festival 2015. Her latest track “Baby Love’ is blowing up at the moment with over four million views on Youtube, and the French rebellious pop pariah is appropriating popular culture in any way that she can to her own eccentric style.

Disorder: So, how are you doing?

Petite Meller: Very good, you? What’s your full name?

D: Ashley Peter-Moore?

PM: Peter Moore?

D: ...yes?

PM: So you like mo-ore? Never enough for you?

D: It’s never enough for me, that’s it indeed. Is this your first time at Reading?

PM: Yeah it is amazing. It’s like Woodstock here, everyone is dancing and up in the air, like dancing all the pain away and that’s what I like.

D: Is that the kind of emotion that you put out in your live shows?

PM: Yeah, it’s kind of rejoice, very joyful and like the beat, it is what heals us. When I was broken hearted and I wrote baby love that’s what I was about. Just putting bongos and congos together and just happy music to make the sadness just disappear and that’s what I’m here for, and my album is about this kind of feeling.

When is the release of your debut album Unbreakable?

PM: It’s going to be released early next year and my next single is going to be released in September and it’s called Barbaric and I’m going to shoot the video in Miami so I’m really excited.

D: What is it about?

PM: It’s all about rebelling, like 'don’t try and make us normal because we are all really barbaric'.

D: Barbaric?

PM: Yes! That’s what you are, right?

D: Sure, animalistic.

PM: Yeah exactly, biting and all that. That’s what we want to do, like bite each other.

D: Sure! Have you got a tour lined up?

PM: Yeah I have my biggest show in Heaven London on the 15th of October so everyone is welcome to come dance the pain away with me!
