Get to know…NAVAN

Trying to find the next best group in music can be like searching for a needle in a haystack and trust me I have been searching, thankfully the universe brought me a gem in the package of London based duo Navan, who are Vanessa the singer and Nathan the rapper lyricist.

Trying to find the next best group in music can be like searching for a needle in a haystack and trust me I have been searching, thankfully the universe brought me a gem in the package of London based duo Navan, who are Vanessa the singer and Nathan the rapper lyricist.

These two are not your orthodox singer/rapper/producer duo, they come together bringing a fusion of alternative styles and sounds that is eclectic and memorable. You can hear this within their music which has no boundaries from the bold boom electronic sounds that are reminiscent of London Grime added with a clever mix of acoustic instrumentation. Don't forget the powerful vocals that are a reflection of influences from the 90s these two are not afraid to experiment with different genres which evolves into something unique.

So my question is how did these two come together? In short, 4 years ago they met through a mutual friend who thought they would have a great musical chemistry. Shout out to whoever that person is because they created Navan. A duo who's concept of teamwork runs through their music and even down to their name. The NA in Nathan and Van in Vanessa equals Navan.

Nathan's musical background is in grime and the hip hop scene and he hails from South London, whereas, on the flip side, Vanessa is from the other side of the river North London. Her musical background comes from soul and classical scene.

Can you start to envision the unity that these two have now?

They are a melting pot of music, similar to how London is a melting pot of different cultures.

Right now they are working on releasing 'Paradigm Paradise' off their upcoming EP release which, simply put, is about how people live within an illusion of paradise when in reality it's a paradigm of ego or a system. Upbeat and with a catchy baseline it almost makes you forget the meaning behind the track—that is until the vocals kick in. But enough of me praising the duo, go listen to them and gain a new perspective on merging different genres and sounds.
