Raucous quintet Dexters are gearing up to release their exuberant debut album, Shimmer Gold (March 17th), via Acid Jazz Records.
Tom Rowlett (lead vocals), Chris Mardon (drums) Chris Heggie (guitars, BV’s), Ben Deboo (lead guitar, BV’s) and Jamie Harris (bass, BV’s) have stayed true to their East End roots without compromise with this album, delivering a high-energy, irrefutable concrete body of work.
The title track – ‘Shimmer Gold‘, is a magnetic slow burner that commences with a minimal eerie soundscape, hewed by haunting drones of static/ feedback and slow building tortuous instrumentation – creating a tad bizarre, but definitely cool, western meets sci-fi motif. The overall vibe is somewhat idiosyncratic yet remarkably enthralling. The single is very overt and earnest, making it a really chill listen that you may find yourself playing over and over again.
‘They’re Blind’, is an outrageous tinnitus track that again, begs to be put on repeat. With its heavily exploding drums and sky-scraping guitar thuds, the track is simply ferocious; it personifies the tenacious London streets we all know and love very well. This tune is colossal and well deserving of a listen.
Another heavy hitter from the album is the unapologetic ‘Recover’, which is scheduled to be released March 10th. Though the track’s narrative denotes the circular trials and tribulations of relationships and the drama they can at times bring, the chaotic and intense instruments make the track immensely upbeat and infectious; it definitely feels like the anthem to a wild night out where the only word that springs forth in the morning is carnage. To put it plainly, the track really delivers – it’s all that you could want an indie-rock track to be and then a sprinkling more. Let me just add, the drums on this track + Mardon during a live performance would equal stellar! Have a good listen and check out the energetic music video below.
