London-based artist and producer Fifi Rong returns with the follow-up single to her acclaimed ‘Forbidden Desire’ EP. Her renowned collaboration work includes her addition to Skepta’s ‘Konnichiwa’ album, with Complex citing her contribution to “one of the strongest album openers in British music history.” Continuing her own brand of hybrid electronica, new single ‘Future Never Comes’ has now dropped with video (below)
So as well as plugging the video we thought we'd find out a little bit more about her.
Disorder: What are you working on right now?
Fifi: Producing my new album.
D: What people, places or things inspire you?
F: Strong emotions inspire me the most.
D: What artists turn you on?
F: Different artists reach different places emotionally; that's the beauty of music and art. For example, every time I listen to Cocteau Twins, I'm taken to a different universe right there and then, and that is a magical feeling. And many other artists do that to me too.
D: What is your ultimate ambition? / Who do you want to be when you grow up?
F: Keep growing, lots of good surprises on the way. I want to be someone who can always find something interesting that excites me, and I want to keep surprising myself with where I can take myself... Life is in motion, not an end goal, I reckon.
D: What got you started (the secret of your success)?
F: Asking myself what I really want to do.
D: What has been the biggest surprise/lesson along the way?
F: That dreams can come true if you dare to pursue them, and courage is the hook to climb a mountain of dreams.
D: Who was your first crush?
F: Can't say, sorry!
D: Who are your favourite fictional heroes?
F: In the most famous classic Chinese novel The Journey to the West the monkey '孙悟空' is my absolute favourite. He has 72 tricks; much cooler than Superman.
D: What/where do you like to eat or drink?
F: I drink a lot of tea. Try to eat greens.
D: Where do you feel most yourself?
F: At home, alone.
D: When are you at your worst? / What is your worst trait?
F: When I doubt.
D: What (injustice -> petty irritation) do you hate the most? / What would you most like to change in the world?
F: I would like to change the fear-based societies and systems. By that, I mean the systems in the world we live in are designed to motivate people to act by inducing their fears of losing something. I think the world would be an amazing place if all people were encouraged to act upon their excitement and passion.
D: What talent do you wish you had?
F: Photographic memory.
D: What is your dominant characteristic?
D: What do you appreciate most in your friends?
F: They are mirrors in which I can see different reflections of myself.
D: What innovation/invention do you love most?
F: The internet.
D: What is your idea of happiness?
F: Freedom, excitement and growth.
D: What is your present state of mind?
F: Being present.
D: What would you do if you were not doing this?
F: Maybe running my own plumbing business... I really don't know.
