By: Andrew Jenner

Esmé is launching her new, 3rd album on 11th November called ‘We Were Wild’. She’s about to start touring the UK supporting Frank Turner (dates below) as well as a couple of her own headline shows in Dublin and London. Even better for us, she’s agreed to a session in December! So we shot some questions in her direction, hoping to get to know the Denver musician.

Disorder: What are you working on right now?
Esmé: Answering these questions.

D: What people, places or things inspire you?
E: My friends, New Orleans, lightning.

D: What artists turn you on?
E: People pushing boundaries.

D: What is your ultimate ambition?
E: I’d like to make music forever.

D: What got you started (the secret of your success)?
E: Believing in myself and trusting my vision.

D: Who was your first crush?
E: Scott Butterworth.

D: Who are your favourite fictional heroes?
E: Sherlock Holmes, Prof. Snape, Lisbeth Salander.

D: What/where do you like to eat or drink?
E: Ethiopian food is my favourite kind of food.

D: Where do you feel most yourself?
E: In the high desert.

D: When are you at your worst?
E: I get very sad sometimes and can fall into darkness for a bit, but understanding where we are weakest helps us know how to be stronger.

D: What would you most like to change in the world?
E: I wish people would be able to see each other as equals.

D: What talent do you wish you had?
E: I wish I could paint.

D: What is your dominant characteristic?
E: Stubbornness.

D: What do you appreciate most in your friends?
E: Their beautiful hearts.

D: What innovation/invention do you love most?
E: Bicycles

D: What is your idea of happiness?
E: Eating a fried shrimp po'boy in Jackson Square in New Orleans.

D: What is your present state of mind?
E: I learned that a dear friend passed away today. My state of mind is shaken yet crystalline, with the necessity to value those that we love and tell them all the time that we love them. Life is so precious and fleeting.

D: What would you do if you were not making music?
E: I’d learn how to be a car mechanic.
