Disorder:  What is your elevator pitch? / What are you working on right now?

Adebayo Oke-Lawal: Hi, my name is Adebayo Oke-Lawal and I make clothes that will change your life haha. I’m currently working on my Autumn/Winter ‘17 collection – so a super intense period.

What people, places or things inspire you?

People who are individuals – I'm inspired by outcasts, strong ideologies, political conversations, emotional experiences and stereotypes. I’m also inspired by the delicacy of the modern day man and opposing hyper masculinity.

What artists turn you on?

Musicians: Solange, Nao, H.E.R., Jessy Lanza, Lion Babe, The xx, Shura and Anohni. Writer: Nayyirah Waheed. Artists: Lakin Ogunbanwo, Dennis Osadebe, Osora Mojekwu, Kadara Enyeasi, Njideka Akunyili Crosby, Awol Erikzu.

What is your ultimate ambition?

To have Orange Culture stocked and worn all over the world!

What got you started (the secret of your success)?

Lagos Fashion and Design Week was my first proper platform – my first impactful discovery was right there!

What has been the biggest surprise/lesson along the way?

I can be much bigger despite where I'm from.

Who was your first crush?

Her name was Faridah and I was like six.

Who are your favourite fictional heroes? / What fictional character can you most relate to?

I want to be a part of the X-Men so bad. Or the Avengers. Neo from The Matrix and the bride from Kill Bill. I also relate to Edna Mode from The Incredibles haha!

What/where do you like to eat or drink?

I love to eat in my room while I watch a TV show. No outing is better than that.

Where/when do you feel most yourself?

When I'm sketching and listening to music – it's such a special feeling.

When are you at your worst?

Production period. I am a super procrastinator.

What would you most like to change in the world?

I feel a lot of the horrid things humanity involves itself in is because humans are inherently selfish – if I could remove that trait, injustice wouldn't happen, because people would be considerate of others.

What talent do you wish you had?

I wish I could sing and play the violin – most beautiful instrument.

What is your dominant characteristic?

I am a very warm person and also very hardworking .

What do you appreciate most in your friends?

They've supported me always. My family, my best friend, Noble, and my close friends have been with me and stood by me through this journey. I love that my friends are all hardworking and changing the game within their industry.

What innovation/invention do you love most?

Oxygen tanks, cause everyone should have the right to breathe properly. Perfume – I love the idea of trapping a magical scent in a bottle and making it transferrable. Sewing machines, cause no one wants to hand sew everything!

Unpaid endorsement: what can you recommend?

Superfacialist skin moisturiser by Una Brennan. It has revived my skin so many times.

What is your idea of happiness?

Doing what you love, being with the ones you love, and helping people through love.

What is your present state of mind?

I need to push Orange Culture more.

What would you do if you were not doing this?

I would be a florist – I love flowers.
