Old Hollywood was the inspiration for Hema Kaul’s A/W14 show at Fashion Scout, which transported audiences back in time to the glamorous 1950’s. Disorder caught all the backstage action at the up-and-coming designer’s Fashion Scout show at Freemasons’ Hall, which embraced and celebrated classic femininity.

Old Hollywood was the inspiration for Hema Kaul’s A/W14 show at Fashion Scout, which transported audiences back in time to the glamorous 1950’s. Disorder caught all the backstage action at the up-and-coming designer’s Fashion Scout show at Freemasons' Hall, which embraced and celebrated classic femininity.

Velvet pencil skirts, satin shift dresses, chiffon full skirts and peplums in oyster, champagne and silver tones with incredibly intricate embroidered details set a romantic tone to the collection. Silk, high-waisted jumpsuits were an androgynous take on the era, and lace detailing suggested influences of Kaul’s Indian heritage. The colour palette transitioned to rich burgundy and navy hues as a spectacular finale of floor-length, crystal encrusted ball gowns swept the catwalk.

From the impeccably set, vintage pin-curls to the starlet-inspired designs, there were both modern and wearable items in Kaul’s collection, amongst those that looked like they were borrowed from a fairy-tale.
