Creative minds think alike

While looking through the Typical Freaks debut collection, a great streak of colour caught my eye. It was hard to look away as the artistic and creative duo transformed the most common silhouettes into majestic pieces of art. Inspired by dog pageants and infamous streaker Erika Roe, Central Saint Martins graduate, Seun Ade-Onojobi, and London College of Fashion graduate, Sonia Xiao, came together to present their debut collection for AW15.

Although the collection has a relaxed and conservative outward appearance, the designers explored other themes such as anarchy, nudity, and exhibitionism. To help inspire the design process of the Typical Freaks collection, they manifested a fictional female character representing anarchists, eccentrics, and freaks. She is engaged in politics, maintains a literal concealment of sensuality, and shares an interest for attending dog shows.

Aside from designing adorable dog show rosette brooches and colourful T-shirt dresses, designers Suen and Sonia also focused on sustainability for their Typical Freaks collection. Their “Backing Cloth Trench Coats” is made up of cloths used to protect a table during screen-printing. It’s amazing to see a visual diary of a collection on layered prints and colour swatches. Such lively colours artistically appealing to the eye.

These creative designers have certainly made a statement in the fashion industry with press coverages in Vogue Italia and LOOK magazine, just to name a few. To become a Typical Freak yourself, be sure to check out the remaining pieces from their AW 15 collection.
